Lisbon’s legendary flea market Feira da Ladra & Ronaldo’s sexy underwear

‘Feira da Ladra’ in Alfama at Campo de Santa Clara , is Lisbons legendary flea market, held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. More or less it means ‘market of thieves’. You should take this quite literally and keep an eye on your wallet .

If you are looking for buying ‘opportunities’, or things that fell of a lorry, make sure you go there early, cause like on all flea markets, the good stuff is sold first.

Don’t be afraid to negotiate the price. It’s part of the game and if you don’t you’ll pay far too much. The market is held every Tuesday and Saturday, from dawn to dusk.

  1. Even if you are not into rubbish, this market is worth seeing just for it’s romantic and fascinating location!
Prices are negotiable and even if you don’t speak Portugese you’ll be able to work it out with the seller. It’s a game; they know it and you know it.
I have bought some items on this market which have become precious to me; the fact that I bought them in Lisbon is an extra.
Have fun looking and do have a coffee on the terrace overlooking the hustle and bustle of the market.

  2. I was there recently and picked up an authentic Hermes tie for 1 euro. A vintage briefcase for 12 euro. Vintage picadilly tie from lisbon for 10 euro. Sterling silver keychain hallmarked for20 euro. When I arrived it all looked pretty bad and I was worried it was going to be a bust. I also took a chance on a pair of stone lion carvings for 10 euro not sure if it is a copy or real middle ages art but I took a chance. Anyhow I left quite happy.

  3. Feira da Ladra does not mean market of thieves! “Ladra” is belived to be derived from “ladro”, a flea which used to be found amongst these antiques
