Location
This small but very charming and cosy 300 years old house is situated in Alfama, near the Museum of Fado and Guitarras de Lisboa. A perfect place if you like to stay in the most popular neighbourhood of Lisbon! The house is located 8 km from Lisbon’s airport in a quiet area. Alfama is a narrowed maze of streets full of fado houses and restaurants, passing up the hill at São Jorge castle with its viewpoints over Lisbon downtown. Nicely renovated (3 floors, a maximum of 6 persons can share it). Nearby Sintra, Estoril, Cascais and beaches of Costa da Caparica, and beach 19.
The house offers easy access to every tourist site in town by foot, bus or metro networks. Located near the Sta. Apolónia train station and one of the hippest nightclubs in town: Lux. Nearby you will find the Baroque circular church of Santa Engrácia - today’s National Pantheon. Close to the Pantheon begins the traditional flea market “Feira da Ladra” where you find for sale antiques, books, music etc.
Pedro Silva, the Portugese owner (see pictures), will personally hand you the keys when you arrive. Pedro owns one of the most popular bars in Bairro Alto, Capela, in Lisbons heart of funky bars and restaurants. If you are bringing your own car, this is one of the few areas of Lisbon with an easy parking space (€ 5 a day).
Though it’s very far south, Lisbon’s Atlantic breezes keep it in summertime generally a little cooler than other cities on the same latitude. June is probably the best summer month to visit, especially since the saints’ festivals fall then. Spring and fall are very pleasant, warm, and sunny. Winter tends to stay warm too, but a (rain)coat can be useful. From the airport, a taxi will take you in ca. 15 minutes to the house in Alfama for about € 10.
[…] The Pantheon is opened daily, from 09:00 - 13:00 and 15:00-19:00, a ticket cost 2 euro. It is possible to walk around the inside of the dome, you can climb the 169 stairs (I did it, pfffffff!) or use the elevator. From the exterior of the dome the view on the Alfama area and on to the Tagus river is marvelous! Authentic house for rent in Alfama […]
